Intermezzo by Sally Rooney follows two brothers grieving their father’s death. Peter, the older brother, is popular and has a conventionally successful job. He is also dealing with his confusing feelings for two women in his life and struggling with addictions. Ivan, the younger brother, is a chess genius with poor social skills. He meets an older, recently divorced woman at one of his tournaments and starts a relationship with her. The relationship between both brothers is strained as they are each struggling in their own way.
Sally Rooney is considered to be one of the most important voices of this generation in literature because her novels accurately reflect the experiences, anxieties, and relationships of millennials and young adults.
